| Stuart Fensterheim LCSW received his B.S. in Education(1977) and his M.S.W. in Family and Children's counseling from the University of Maryland (1985). Prior to his MSW he had been a certified teacher for the elementary school grades as well as employed in a number of business capacities. As a social worker Stuart has worked in a number of different positions from medical setting to inpatient psychiatric settings. Stuart was actively involved in developing a program for children of divorce in 1983. In addition Stuart has served as clinical supervisor and Director of Social Work at Glenbrook Psychiatric Hospital in Azusa, California.
Stuart's extensive postgraduate studies have included training in such areas as Suicide in Children and Adolescents, Attention Deficit Disorder, Treating victims of natural disaster, Post traumatic Stress Disorder, child Abuse, Adults abused as children, sexual dysfunction in marriage, and step-families. One area of special interest is assisting families with coping with their personal stresses when a child has been diagnosed with a severe medical condition. This is something that he has dealt with both personally and professionally. His treatment approach is tailored to meet the needs of his individual clients but may include Gestalt, Cognitive Behavior, system theory play therapy and a brief solution focused approach to counseling. He has presented numerous speeches and seminars for school and community groups on topics including co-dependency, child abuse, parenting, men's issues, self-esteem, relationships and couple communication. |
